Energy Arizona

A Brief History of Energy in Arizona

Arizona's energy landscape has transformed significantly over time, adapting to varying demands and resource availability.  It’s important that any discussion of the State’s energy future is put into its historical context.

Our project splits Arizona's energy history into five eras: Indigenous (Pre-1776), Pre-Statehood (1776-1912), Post-Statehood (1912-1950), Baby Boomer (1950-2000), and Current Day (2000-).

We aim to chart the State's population growth, energy consumption, energy production and environmental outcomes, alongside its energy supply-related institutional developments over time.  Using these strands, the study, through various data visualizations supplemented with historical images, provides a perspective for future energy debates.

Lookforward the publication of the project in 2024.
